MYTH-BUSTERS SERIES: 30. Douching is the best way for women to keep clean down there.
FACT: It’s estimated that 20%-40% of women douche – and about half do so weekly.
Still, gynecologists say the best way to keep your nether region clean is to leave it alone.
People think it’s like cleaning any other part of your body, but the vagina has its own self-cleaning mechanism. It produces its own fluids that help to wash things out while also keeping the right bacteria around in the right proportions.
Using homemade or store-bought douches (usually solutions of water, vinegar, baking soda, or iodine) upsets the vagina’s natural balance of bacteria and increases the risk for yeast and other vaginal infections.
And because douching can push bacteria from the vagina higher up into the reproductive organs, it may also contribute to pelvic inflammatory disease, a major cause of infertility.
NEWS: Canada's teen pregnancy rates fall sharply
28 May 10
Teen pregnancy rates have fallen more steeply in Canada over the last decade than in the United States, England or Sweden, a new study shows. Between 1996 and 2006, the most recent year for which information is available for all four countries, Canada's teen pregnancy rate declined in each consecutive year, falling from 44.2 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 19 in 1996 to to 27.9 in 2006. That represents a 36.9% decline over the course of a decade, compared to a 25% decline in the U.S., a 4.75% dip in England (where statistics include Wales) and a 19.1% increase in Sweden.
"What's striking is that the magnitude of decline appears to be more significant in Canada," says Alex McKay, lead author of the study and research co-ordinator with the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada (SIECCAN), which released the study Wednesday morning. "Declining teen pregnancy rates for the country in general are indicative of better sexual and reproductive health among young women."

Profani-saurus: Devil's Kiss
DEFINITION: A fart released during sex in the 69 position.
Joke of the Day: HEIGHT OF CONCEIT?
Q. What's the height of conceit?
A. Having an orgasm and calling out your own name.
MYTH-BUSTERS SERIES: 29. The condition "blue balls" is something guys make up.
TRUTH
Blue balls, or painful vasocongestion, is actually a very real condition. It can also occur in women, but this is not as common. Vasocongestion occurs during arousal and blood flow increases to the genitals, exerting pressure on the blood vessels and surrounding tissue.
After orgasm or ejaculation, the blood flow decreases and the pressure is released. But if orgasm or ejaculation doesn't occur, the pressure can cause pain or discomfort. This is not, however, a reason for a guy to coerce a girl into having or finishing sexual activity. Blue balls will neither kill nor maim a man.
Profani-saurus: Coyote
DEFINITION: A woman who you would chew your own arm off to get away from the morning-after!
Joke of the Day: GIFTED FROG
This guy walks into the bar and sees a gorgeous blonde sitting on a bar stool all alone. So the guy sits down next to her and pulls a small box from his pocket. He opens it and there is a frog inside. The blonde says, "He's cute, but does he do tricks?" The guy says, "Yea, he performs cunnilingus."
She is intrigued, so after talking with her for several minutes, he convinces her to come with him to his apartment. They get there and she takes all of her clothes off, gets into the bed and spreads her legs.
The guy sets the frog right between her legs and it just sits there not moving at all. The blond says, "Well, what's up?” The frog still does not move. So the guy leans over to the frog and says, "All right, I'm only going to show you how to do this one more time!"
MYTH-BUSTERS SERIES: 28. You can't get STDs or STIs from giving or recieving oral sex.
TRUTH
This is one of the most dangerous myths in existence. Although oral is generally considered less of a risk than intercourse, any exposure to genitalia or body fluids puts you at risk for catching an STD. There are many STDs that can be transitted through oral sex, including genital herpes, genital warts (HPV), gonorrhea, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, chlamydia, canchoid, syphilis, internal parasite (amebiasis), and rarely, HIV.
To prevent getting an STD from oral sex, you and your partner should get screened for STDs, and you should always use a condom or dental dam (a latex square or cut open condom) during oral sex. But of course, you can only catch an STD if your partner has one in the first place, so get tested!
NEWS: Pope-bishop relationship key in sex abuse defense
18 May 10
The pope appoints bishops, issues rules bishops are supposed to follow and accepts their resignations. Bishops take a vow of obedience to the pontiff and can't switch jobs without his approval. But is the pope their boss? Are bishops Vatican employees or officials?
Those questions are very much at the heart of lawsuits in the United States seeking to hold the Holy See liable for the failure of bishops to stop priests from raping and molesting children. The Vatican filed a motion to dismiss one such suit in Kentucky on Monday, arguing in part that bishops aren't Vatican employees and that Rome therefore can't be held liable for their actions.
The case is significant because it represents the farthest any case has gotten in a U.S. court trying to place blame for the clerical abuse scandal on Rome, not just the priests who abused children and the bishops who failed to turn them into police.
